Is your life a bit chaotic? Do you find it hard to rest? It’s easy in this world to always be doing something.
We are resistant to stopping, especially when we’re on a roll. Like the momentum when a car is speeding down a hill, it takes effort to stop.
Children are much the same way in how they get into a project or playtime and don’t want to stop what they are doing when it’s time to move on to something else. So with my child, I started saying “pause” instead of “stop” all the time. And it helped.
So I was reminded that we all need to pause.
We spend so much time striving to do all the things but very little time pausing to just be in the quiet with God.
What if the reason we’re so stressed all the time is because we need to pause and rest?
What if all we really need is to sit at the Father’s feet and find rest in Him?
We strive so hard in this world to be somebody…to be heard by others…to be seen…to find success. We even strive so hard to be good…to follow the rules…to try in our own power to be like Jesus.
But we need to pause.
Stop.
Cease striving.
Be still.
And just be with God.
Know His wondrous glory.
Honor Him.
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalms 46:10 NLT
Do you ever sit still and think, truly think, about the God of the universe, your Creator? The awe and wonder of Him is important — and impossible not to have — if we are truly still and quiet with Him.
In the chaos and noise of this world, we are always trying to do so much that we miss what we could see and hear if we paused and entered quiet moments with Him.
Pausing isn’t passive. We must purposefully set aside time. We must prayerfully enter the quiet with Him. And we must prepare to be amazed by His wondrous glory.
Return to the garden. Let Him walk with you as He once walked with Adam and Eve.
Rest at His feet.
Stop trying so hard in your own power to do, well, everything. Trust in the One who created you, who loves you beyond measure, so much that He left His throne in Heaven and came to live as you live — in human flesh — and gladly suffered and died for you.
Jesus conquered death and sin once and for all when He raised from death to life again. All to save you and me…to draw us back to the garden…to walk with Him and find rest.
All He wants is to be with you. He chose to create this wondrous universe for you to live and love and enjoy. All He asks in return is that you give Him your heart. Believe in Him. Worship Him.
He deserves our devotion. He deserves our praise. No other could do what He did. No other god of man came to us, much less to save us.
Only Jesus.
He doesn’t require good works to come to Him. He wants you to come as you are. But I guarantee — you will not leave unchanged. He changes us from the inside out.
Pause today. Spend time in His presence. Invite Him in to surround you and fill you with His peace. Surrender to His love. Give Him all the glory.
Don’t let the rocks cry out in praise before you do.
“But Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!’ ” Luke 19:40 NASB1995
Pause and Praise the Lord
Creation knows the glory of the Father.
The birds testify to His goodness.
The rocks cry out in praise.
The waves rock back and forth, singing of His faithfulness.
O Lord our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
How can a mere man or woman be with You?
For You formed our bodies from the very dust of the earth.
To earth we will return when we surely die.
But You, O Lord, gave us a soul that can live forever.
You created the innermost part of who we are
To give You honor and praise all of our days.
We pause to savor your faithfulness.
We sit and wait at Your feet.
We are still and rest in Your goodness.
For the Lord Almighty reigns!
And how He loves us so!
In Him there is no darkness, only Light.
He shines for all to see.
Open your eyes, dear ones,
See the Lord, your King of kings!
