We are continuing with our “Walking with God” series with a focus on finding healing.

A long time back I saw a video from a doctor’s social media page that talked about the benefits of daily walking. I don’t remember the exact source, but a few things stood out to me.
Daily walking is a simple habit with a huge payoff.
In just 2-5 minutes, your blood sugar fuels your muscles, which reduces glucose spikes. After 5 minutes, your brain releases chemicals that calm you. And after 10-15 minutes, your immune system activates and protective immune cells move into position.
Within a few weeks, you will sleep better, have more energy, and develop a better mood overall. After years of daily walking, your bones are stronger, memory improves, the risk of chronic disease drops, and your lifespan lengthens by 5-10 years.
Through physically walking each day, our bodies can heal things we didn’t even realize were unhealthy. The same healing can happen in our souls when we walk daily with God.
Faith in Action
It says in the Gospels (Matthew 9, Mark 5, and Luke 8) that a woman with constant bleeding for twelve years showed up in the crowds as Jesus passed through on His way to heal a little girl. She had spent all her money on doctors trying to find a cure for her ailment.
But she didn’t find the healing she sought. Instead, she suffered even more at their hands. She had done all she could do and remained alone and outcast because of her condition.
But on this day she had a flicker of hope. She had heard about Jesus and knew He was passing through. She had faith that He could heal her, and so she sought Him out.
She took action and pushed through the discomfort in the crowd, ignoring the looks she received from those who considered her unclean. Her focus was on Jesus.
“for she was saying to herself, ‘If I only touch His garment, I will get well.’” Matthew 9:21 NASB1995
Maybe she felt she wasn’t worthy of asking Him for healing. Or maybe she knew by law He would be considered unclean if He touched her. But she had faith that just touching the hem of His robe would be enough to heal her. So she reached out and was healed.
“And He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.’” Mark 5:34 NLT
Are you still suffering?
Something happened to you that has caused a great deal of suffering. It could have been long ago, but perhaps you are still living in it. You feel alone and outcast in your pain and desperately want to be healed, to be freed from your burden.
Perhaps you’ve sought healing from the world, drowning your sorrows in temporary things that only added more weight for you to carry.
Maybe you’ve pushed down the hurt you feel, numbing yourself to even the joys of life because you think it’s easier that way than to go through discomfort to process it and fully let go.
The woman who was bleeding knew from experience that no one could fix her problem but Jesus. She tried on her own and with the help of others for twelve long years. But she was only healed when she pushed through discomfort, in faith, to reach Jesus.
Perhaps Jesus knew she would reach out, and that’s why He chose that path that day. Perhaps He knew she would have to fight the crowd to get to Him.
The way wasn’t easy, but He still made a way for her to reach Him and she walked toward healing because she walked toward the Source of that healing.
Lay Down Your Burdens
Walking toward Jesus is not always easy. But He still makes a way. He still opens up the path, even if it looks hard and uncomfortable.
“For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life…” Matthew 7:14 NASB1995
People hurt us. People hurt others, which hurts our hearts too. It seems the world is falling apart. Society is deceived at every turn.
How can a mere human carry such a weight?
Well, the simple answer is that we can’t.
We have to take it to Jesus… to the One who created the universe and is the only One capable of carrying such a heavy burden.
He doesn’t want you to carry it.
He wants you to bring it to Him.
He will heal your heart and carry your burdens if you reach out to Him in faith.
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NASB1995
Lay it all on His shoulders.
And instead of you carrying the weight of the world, the weight of the hurts, the weight of injustices… let Him carry you.
Remain in Him. Walk with Him toward true healing.
Because when you walk with Him, He is right there to hand your burdens to. He can easily pick you up when you need to be carried through tough times.
Don’t try to handle it alone.
Walk by Faith with Patience and Gratitude
Will we rest in God’s love for us even if we don’t get the healing we crave right away?
We don’t always get what we want instantly. The woman who was bleeding waited twelve years for healing. Jesus healed one blind man in parts instead of instantly. (Mark 8) Naaman had to dunk seven times in the Jordan River to be healed of leprosy. (2 Kings 5)
It takes time to build an enduring faith.
“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4 NASB1995
It takes time to align our will with God’s as we walk with Him.
It takes time to appreciate something when it finally comes.
And when we receive what our heart desires, we must remember to thank the Giver of that blessing.
Jesus healed ten lepers as they were walking to obey Him. Yet only one returned to thank Him.
“When He saw them, He said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they were going, they were cleansed. Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan.” Luke 17:14-16 NASB1995
We must be like that one… full of faith to receive healing as we walk in obedience to Christ… and full of gratitude when healing comes.
In fact, we can be full of gratitude even before we receive that which we desire.
We can thank God for what He will do, even if we don’t know the outcome or the timing of it.
It’s our faith in action that leads to patience and contentment. It pushes us forward in earnest to reach for Him.
And walking with Him keeps us walking toward healing, even if we cannot see it yet.
“for we walk by faith, not by sight—” 2 Corinthians 5:7 NASB1995
